Business Breakout 6: The value of the Alation Data Catalog in a decentralized company with an eco-system of technologies

The transport industry is undergoing the largest transformation seen since the introduction of the combustion engine. Propelled by technology, disruptive products, services and business models are changing the landscape forever. For companies with a rich heritage, currently amongst the market leaders, transformation is a must. In this talk, I will present my view on how a company like Scania can leverage the culture which brought us to where we are today in the needed transformation from a truck OEM to a transport solution provider. In short, the strategy is to delegate mandate close to the action and know-how, while keeping governance centralized for holistic aspects. Here, a data catalogue is key.

Closing Keynote: Why most digital transformations fail – and what you can do about it!

The human element in digital transformation is critical. However, evolutionarily, resisting change can be a good thing. It ensures that we keep in our known physical and social realms and stops us from doing things that risk our social bonds or status. Ancient regions of our brains control our unwillingness to change and “we often have little choice but to follow the affective dictates that they provide”. Jon Eklöf is the Chief Data and Analytics Officer of GKN Aerospace Engines. In parallel he researches digital transformation. His research resides at the intersection of general management and computer science.
